How To Trust God When Facing the Storms of Life?
Habakkuk 3:17-19 (NLT)
Even though the fig trees have no blossoms,
and there are no grapes on the vines;
even though the olive crop fails,
and the fields lie empty and barren;
even though the flocks die in the fields,
and the cattle barns are empty,
yet I will rejoice in the Lord!
I will be joyful in the God of my salvation!
The Sovereign Lord is my strength!
He makes me as surefooted as a deer,
able to tread upon the heights
Good Monday Morning! I hope you are all well and dry! Here in Destin, Florida we have just endured another hurricane! The rains and winds have been unbelievable but we were so blessed not to have any significant damage! As I was searching my heart on what to share with you today, I knew we had to talk about the storms of life. How do we trust God when our lives are faced with hurricanes: troubled relationships, financial woes, sickness, and so much more? Today’s encouragement will lead us to a greater trust in God.
In the scripture above Habakkuk describes a very dark picture. There is death and lack everywhere. Basically he is describing one whose future looks empty, their today looks barren, and they feel like they have nothing to count on or fall back on. Could this be you today? Are you facing such a storm in your life that your dreams, your finances, and people in your lives seem dead? The good news today is that we can find joy, strength, and trust in God on the worst day of our lives!
The scriptures then say, “Yet I will rejoice in the Lord.” What? How do you rejoice in the Lord when you are facing the hurricanes of life? I can share from my own personal brokenness that in my worst days I can always thank God for saving me! I thank God for loving me when I am at my own personal worst! I thank God that He is my Heavenly Father and that I know He will never leave me or forsake me. I ultimately remind myself that God loves me so much that He gave His only Son, Jesus, to redeem and rescue me!
When we are able to be thankful and rejoice in the Lord– it will always bring you strength! God will become your focus and not your circumstances! God will start helping you move forward with hope and a greater trust in Him. God will start planting your heart and feet solid into who HE is and who you are to Him! Then as the scripture ends with, “The Sovereign Lord is my strength! He makes me as surefooted as a deer, able to tread upon the heights.” You too will find strength from God. God will help guide your path so that you too will soar high above the storm! You will have a new found level of trust in God and you will overcome through His love and power!
My challenge this week is: if you are faced with a hurricane or storms in your life then right now just thank God for loving you! Thank God for His Son Jesus and for their redeeming love, mercy, and grace. Then lean into God and allow Him to orchestrate your steps out of the darkness, pain, and storms. God will light up your pathway and give you the strength. You will be able to trust God in a greater way and you will have the power to overcome the storms!
