Sexual Assaults What you Need to Know
When doing my research on sexual assaults, I felt such an urgency to share all the information with you. The traumatic experience of sexual assault victim’s encounter must be validated. I felt it was essential to give you the facts on sexual assaults today:
An American is sexually assaulted every 93 seconds.
For every 1000 rapes in the US, 995 perpetrators will go unpunished.
EVERY 9 minutes, child protective substantiates finds evidence for a claim of sexual abuse-34% under the age of 12 and 66% age 12-17.
One in 9 girls and 1 in 53 boys under the age of 18 experience sexual abuse or assault at the hands of an adult.
82% of all victims under 18 are female.
Females ages 16-19 are four times more likely than the general population to be victims of rape, attempted rape, or sexual assault.
Girls and women between the ages of 16 and 19 are 4x more likely than girls and women in other age groups to be assaulted or raped.
93% of the violators are known to the victim- 59% acquaintances, 34% family members, and 7%-strangers.
Child sexual abuse statistics highlight the harrowing revelation that teens aged 14 to 17 years of age were in the highest risk category for sexual assault, with more than one in four adolescents (27.3%) having been sexually victimized during their lifetimes.
I know how traumatic and life-altering sexual assaults and sexual abuse can be, so we must open up the conversations with each other no matter how uncomfortable it can feel.
